Workplace English Campaign

The Campaign was set up by the Hong Kong Government to help employees improve their English proficiency in the workplace. The Hong Kong Government, through the Workplace English Campaign, is offering businesses a 50% refund of course and test fees for their business English training. We, have been, and currently remain an approved HK Government course provider for the Workplace English Campaign for many years, and we would be delighted to explain in more detail the procedures for making an application for funding of English language training under this Campaign.

We design and conduct very specific English language courses that meet the requirements of this funding scheme as well as preparing your staff for the BULATS Standard, Writing, and Speaking tests.

We offer professional business English training that will not only prepare your staff to perform well in the test but will also be relevant to suit the specific English Language requirements of your company.

We also provide a free service of helping you with all the required administrative paperwork for funding under this Campaign from the HK Government.

Write Better Business English

The training focuses on all of the important written skills needed for work. There will be tailor-made intensive notes and samples of business correspondence together with plenty of writing practice. Participants will learn how to identify writing problems so they can improve their own writing skills in a way that will be immediately applicable to their work. In particular, a special feature includes avoiding common Hong Kong writing and grammatical errors.

This training will help your staff write business correspondence that will be positive, reader-friendly and result focused in which the principles taught on this course can be applied to all types of business writing including; letters, e-mails, memos, reports, proposals, etc.

Effective Spoken Business English

This training is designed to improve participants' fluency in speaking general business English. In addition, listening skills will be enhanced. It is highly practical training that focuses on many real life work situations and provides participants with the tools they need to communicate naturally in English with complete confidence.

Participants will be given many opportunities to speak English in class through role-plays, group work, pair work and class discussions. The emphasis will be on getting your staff to sound and be confident when speaking in English no matter on the phone or in face-to-face situations with a native speaker.

Participants will improve their pronunciation of English sounds and will gain an added confidence of knowing they are speaking English correctly and clearly.

English for Presentations

The training contains all the English skills and techniques needed to present in public or to clients with confidence.  

Participants will learn ways of planning, structuring and delivering their presentations in clear and correct English.  There are tips at improving pronunciation, avoiding the most common mistakes and handling questions well.

If required, recorded video feedback with constructive comments by the trainer and peers could be made of presentations throughout the training

The teaching material is tailor-made to fit the specific needs of your company. There will be many opportunities for short presentations in class and a project is given in order to enhance the key language skills and confidence needed to become an effective presenter.

English for Meetings

This training will enable your staff to feel confident when attending meetings in English and be given the tools to participate in them effectively. The participants will practise the language of meetings in many different business contexts and these English language skills are then developed into meaningful and realistic ways in the workplace.  There will be many opportunities to speak and listen to useful language and phrases for leading, and taking part, in meetings.

The training covers useful business vocabulary that will enable participants to express themselves better and contributes to the overall confidence in communicating effectively in English during all kinds of business meetings with colleagues and clients.

English for Negotiations

This training aims to help participants become skillful users of English in the process of successful negotiation with colleagues, customers, business partners for achieving desired business goals. It provides the correct English language skills needed to participate effectively in all types of negotiations, and is structured in a realistic format. The training will develop and refine those language skills that are important in key negotiating techniques and areas such as openings, disagreement, making proposals, signposting, compromising, agreement and summarizing.

There will also be opportunities to develop listening skills and further understand cultural factors affecting negotiating styles in the English-speaking world.

Training is highly practical, involving role-play, analysis, and action planning. Constructive and individual feedback will also be given by peers as well as by the trainer.

English Language Courses for Japanese

We prepare Japanese people in Hong Kong to communicate more effectively in English by offering a wide variety of high quality tailor-made practical courses in English language and cross-cultural training. These courses focus on helping Japanese to communicate in everyday business and social situations that they are likely to encounter whilst living in Hong Kong or in another English-speaking overseas posting.

We offer a large variety of spoken and written English courses for beginners to advanced levels and all classes are adapted to the needs of the students. Private, small-group and in-house courses are available.

English Language and Cross - Cultural Coaching

One-on-one (or small group – up to five) assistance from an experienced coach is delivered where and when it suits the executive, professional, manager, or other business person who needs to improve English fast or learn in a confidential setting. 

Several meetings are arranged to work out the language needs of the participant. The focus of our English language coaching is on learning and applying essential skills in both written and spoken situations, as well as learning strategies for vocabulary development and improving pronunciation in spoken English.

Clients will receive tailored content, expert guidance and regular personal feedback that will ensure fast results and will quickly help develop confidence.

Coaching can be conducted on-site at our office, or more usually off-site in the comfort of the participant’s home or immediate work surroundings – company office, boardroom, nearby coffee bar, restaurant or other preferred location.

Cross – cultural coaching is also available for preparing and motivating people to interact better across cultures. We help coach local Chinese to have a better understanding of Western cultural practices as well as providing coaching for native-English speakers from abroad when they are newly posted to Hong Kong or the mainland.

Workplace stress can affect your workforce, productivity, attendance levels, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, retention, talent management, and your reputation as a good place to work. This training is specifically designed for all levels of staff and will help them achieve better results.

Cross-Cultural Training for the Office

We specialise in helping international business people to work effectively and productively with customers and colleagues from different cultures. Material is designed to form the foundation for participants to acquire the skills necessary to establish a positive and rewarding business relationship between people of different cultures.

The training helps both expatriates and local Hong Kong people to understand and improve their communication differences for the common good of the company and business in general.

One unique feature of our cross-cultural program is the Business Practices and Communication Skills for Hong Kong and mainland Chinese. This provides the culture-specific information and cross-cultural skills needed for working effectively together between your Hong Kong staff and Chinese counterparts from the mainland. As with all our workshops, this could be conducted in Cantonese, Mandarin or English.

Professional Technical Writing

This builds the skills and knowledge necessary to help technical writers create documentation that is clear and concise.

This training will highlight the established basics for effective technical correspondence writing in the business world and introduce some types of communication as processes, description of mechanisms, proposals, and reports. Each participant will receive personal feedback and instruction from the trainer.

Yoga for the Office

We provide office yoga classes and workshops that specialize in private and group classes at all levels that are designed to meet the needs of your company. Our yoga classes and workshops develop, increase and maintain the health, productivity and performance of your staff in the workplace.

Most classes and workshops include a series of relaxing breathing meditation techniques which are ideal for reducing stress in the workplace.

No yoga mat or other equipment is needed - all exercises can be performed if necessary while standing or sitting in a chair. Ideal for those who have to sit for extended periods of time. All classes / workshop are open to all levels.

One-day yoga workshops can be specially designed to promote team building and stress management.

Our yoga instructors are all highly certified and some of the most experienced in Hong Kong.

Following consultation with your management or human resources team, a specific yoga programme can be customized to suit the needs of your company as a one-day workshop or a series of weekly classes.

High Impact Presentations – Soft Skills

This training is for all levels, from junior management to the most senior executives, who seek to enhance their presentation abilities to colleagues or clients. It is highly participative training designed to develop specific skills and build greater confidence through trainer input, help and guidance, personal assessment and interactive sessions.

Training is available at all levels from those who have no experience of presenting to those who have experience but need to polish their skills further.

By taking part in a number of practical focused sessions and exercises throughout the training, participants will progressively build up their self confidence. Business Etiquette Training

Business Etiquette is the knowledge and application of the proper form, rules, manners, or customs required in specific business situations. In today's competitive business environment, good manners, dining skills, making a good impression, and knowing the right way of behaving are playing an increasing important role in day-to-day business encounters.

The most obvious impression of a company often comes from the first image presented by employees in that company. Therefore, it is important that all levels of staff – from front-desk to senior executives are all able to communicate and act in a professional business-like manner so as to always present a good, professional impression.

Topics covered include the correct way of meeting & greeting, introducing yourself and others, handshaking, eye contact and body language, exchanging business cards, conversation skills, attending cocktail parties, displaying good dining manners, listening, asking questions, dining, seating guidelines, understanding menus, handling of cutlery, drinking, and paying the bill.

Participants will have many opportunities to be involved in practical hands-on practice activities, pair work, and role play situations.

Customer Service Care - Soft Skills

Good customer service is important to winning and keeping customers. This training will give participants experience with a wide range of customer service situations both over the telephone and face to face. All the information and exercises can be easily applied to work-related situations.

Chinglish Correction Workshops

All second language speakers of English tend to make interference errors from their first language. Singaporean speakers of English create ‘Singlish’, Chinese Speakers of English create ‘Chinglish’.

One unique feature of MJB InterCommunication is our provision of Chinglish Correction workshops that will help your staff to speak Standard English better by avoiding making common Chinglish mistakes. It is important for business or working professionals to pronounce words clearly and confidently. This is achieved through correct English usage, choice of words, and clear pronunciation. Awareness of Chinglish will contribute to enhancing a positive corporate image and self esteem for your staff.

Some features of our workshops focus on errors from many sources such as incorrect understanding of sentence structures, misunderstandings of loan words, poor grammar translations, and direct translations from Chinese to English.
